CCSVI – Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Surgery

Chronic Cerebro-Spinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) Is A Syndrome Associated With A Blockage Restricting The Blood Flow From The Central Nervous System (CNS), Through The Cervical And Thorac Veins. In Layman’s Terms This Is When The Blood Supply From The Brain And Spine Has Trouble Returning To The Heart.

It Is Suggested That This Blockage Is Due To Stenosis Of The Jugular And Azygos Veins. Dr Paolo Zamboni, Identified And Labeled The CCSVI Syndrome And Has Linked It To To Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Chronic Cerebro-Spinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI)

Diagnosing CCSVI And It’s Subsequent Unblocking Seems To Be The Only Logical Way Forward. This Needs To Be Done Now. The Connection Of CCSVI And MS Can Be Worked Out In Time. MS Is A Degenerative Disease And Does Not Wait For Time. The Screening And Treatment Should Not Be Delayed Any More.

Fix The Known Blockage. If It Is Found, We Know It Shouldn’t Be There So Just Remove The Blockage. This Blockage Is Connected To MS Because There Is A High Level Found In MS Patients. Why Don’t We Just Test All 2.5 Million Of The MS Sufferers And Treat All With The Blockage? Who Knows? If We Go On The Current Evidence We Will Save Billions Of Dollars On Medications That Only Have A Slowing Down Effect.

This Is A Gamble Every MS Patient I Have Spoken To, Who Knows About CCSVI Is Willing To Take. They Accept That This Might Not Be The Miracle Cure They Were Looking For, And Their Hope Dashed, Once Again.

Reason Tells Us That If Safe, Screening, And Subsequent Mass Testing, Should Be Done Without Delay. It Can Be Argued That Any Unnecessary Delay To A Potentially Effective Treatment, Can Only Harm The Individual Harboring A Degenerative Disease, Commonly Referred To As MS. Some Go Further To Say It Is Highly Irresponsible.

CCSVI Should Be Front Page News In Every Newspaper In The World, It Should Be Embraced And Heavily Researched By Every Charity Organization That Collects In The Name Of Affected People. On The Evidence Already Presented This Delay To Broader Research Appears Unreasonable.

Economic Impact Of A Simple MS Treatment

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Market Has Estimated Revenues In Excess Of Eight Billion Dollars. The News Of This Simple But Revolutionary Approach Has The MS Drug Industry On Edge. The Financial Implications Imply Not Everyone Will Benefit, If Dr. Zamboni’s Breakthrough Proves To Be Key To Eradicating MS
Symptoms and Possible Consequences

CCSVI causes a high sensitivity and specifically separates healthy people from MS sufferers. Current studies suggest that a subtype of MS sufferers have CCSVI present. The the liberation process attempts to remove a blockage in blood vessels leading to the brain. These blockages cause a build up of iron in the brain, which trigger autoimmunity and degeneration of the nerve’s myelin sheath.

Treatments for MS have been proposed and tested on a small groups of patients. Below are some known possible symptoms, and consequences of the treatment.
Hypoxia

Hypoxia is a pathological condition in where a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply. A common result of hypoxia is fatigue and possible unconsciousness.
Delayed Perfusion

This may cause a delay in the nutritive delivery of arterial blood to the capillary bed.

Reduced Drainage of the Catabolites

Catabolites is a substance created during the process of catabolism. This process breaks down molecules down into smaller units and then releases energy.
Increased Transmural Pressure

This may increase the pressure difference between the pressure inside and the pressure outside the walls of the blood vessel.
Iron Deposits Around the Cerebral Veins

These are iron deposits trapped in the brain. Every Surgical Procedure Has It’s Dangers, BUT…

The sooner patients can be diagnosed and treated for CCSVI, the more functions the surgeons will be able to reserve, and the less change of damage imbalanced blood flow can cause the brain.

Because MS is a progressive disease and strikes young people, if we lose time, there are a lot of young people that will progress without possibility to get back. This is very heavy for me.” – Dr. Paolo Zamboni

Zamboni also warned, that this treatment cannot offer wheelchair bound people the chance to regain the use of their limbs. Instead this is a case of damage limitation. It will stunt further developments of the attack, and in some cases improve mobility and reduce chronic fatigue, both common symptoms of MS. This is a race against time!

The Liberation Technique/Treatment

An experimental procedure known as the ‘The Liberation Treatment’ is a cutting-edge, scientific breakthrough made by Dr Paolo Zamboni of Italy, inspired by the love of his wife Elana. It is proposed that this process may help alleviate many of the symptoms associated with Multiple Sclerosis.

Dr Zamboni had a theory that there could be a condition where the veins draining from the brain were either malformed or blocked, and that it was an underlying cause of MS. He labeled it chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI). This unique view has rocked mainstream thinking to its core.

Until this discovery MS was described as an autoimmune condition, where the immune system attacks myelin, a fatty substance coating the nerve cells.

Dr Zamboni noticed that 90% of MS patients had a blockage or malformation in the veins which drain the blood from the brain, that this leads to a dangerous build up of iron in the brain, causing the neurological symptoms associated with MS.

Zamboni believed that if this blockage could be re-opened it could alleviate many of the symptoms. He used a simple surgical procedure known as angioplasty to unblock the veins of 65 patients. The surgical procedure was labeled the “liberation procedure” because it liberated the patients of their blockages.
What Can We Do?

Dr Zamboni Has Put Forward Some Pretty Solid Evidence That This Could Be A Successful Treatment. This Response Has Been Slow, But As More And More People Read And Go Through The Actual Process, This Vision Is Gaining Momentum.

All We Can Ask You To Do Is Look At The Facts. Many Of It Is Written By People Who Have Benefited From Dr Zamboni’s Research. The First Barrier To Get Over Is The Testing On Ccsvi, Which Currently Is Not Readily Available.

Essentially We Must Strive To Raise Awareness. We Are Looking To Concerned Bloggers To Keep This Subject In The Limelight Until This Surgical Procedure Becomes Mainstream. Dr Paolo Zamboni Offered A Hypothesis, Pointing Out That Any Delay In The Treatment Of This Problem Will Only Result In A Worsening Situation For The Patient.

As states have moved from merely tolerating gambling to running their own games, as communities have increasingly turned to gambling for an economic boost, important questions arise. Has the new age of gambling increased the proportion of pathological or problem gamblers in the U.S. population? Where is the threshold between social betting and pathology? Is there a real threat to our families, communities, and the larger society? Pathological Gambling explores America’s experience of gambling, examining: — The diverse and frequently controversial issues surrounding the definition of pathological gambling.– Its co-occurrence with disorders such as alcoholism, drug abuse, and depression.– Its social characteristics and its economic consequences, both good and bad, for communities.– The role of video gaming, Internet gambling, and other technologies in the development of gambling problems.– Treatment approaches and their effectiveness, from Gambler’s Anonymous to cognitive therapy to pharmacology. This book provides the most up-to-date information available on the prevalence of pathological and problem gambling in the United States, including a look at populations that may have a particular vulnerability to gambling: women, adolescents, and minority populations. The committee describes the effects of problem gambling on families, friendships, employment, finances, and propensity to crime. How do pathological gamblers perceive and misperceive randomness and chance? What are the causal pathways to pathological gambling? What do genetics, brain imaging, and other studies tell us about the biology of gambling? Is there a bit of sensation-seeking in all of us? Whoneeds treatment? What do we know about the effectiveness of different policies for dealing with pathological gambling? The book reviews the available facts and frames the intriguing questions yet to be answered.Pathological Gambling will be the odds-on favorite for anyone interested in gambling in America: policymakers, public officials, economics and social researchers, treatment professionals, and concerned gamblers and their families.

Although pathological gambling has been a field of study and treatment for over forty years, its story has remained unwritten. That is until now. Brian Castellani is the first to write a book on its history and its medicalization.Drawing on five years of research, Castellani integrates the perspectives of Michael Foucault and Anselm Strauss to provide a unique view into the history of pathological gambling. He also combines rich descriptions of court cases and historical documents along with his own clinical experiences and first-hand accounts from gamblers and their families. Together, these stories — which range from the gambling industry and treatment to the government and research — tell us how pathological gambling became a major social problem in the United States, how it was made into a medical disorder, and the impact its legalization and medicalization have had on our current society and gambling culture.

The past five years have witnessed dramatic advances in research on pathological gambling—a diagnosis often overlooked by clinicians who are unaware not only of the personal and social consequences of pathological gambling, but also of the possible treatment options. Today, clinicians can choose from an array of treatment options to substantially improve the lives of patients with this disabling illness.Eloquently attesting to this extraordinary progress, this remarkable clinician's guide comprises the most extensive coverage on public health, clinical characteristics and treatment, psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, and interventions for adolescents, adults, and older adults. Written by the world's leading researchers on psychiatric aspects of gambling, this truly comprehensive volume discusses how to diagnose pathological gambling and provides the tools to do so. Here, 32 experts detail the clinical phenomenology, etiology, and treatment of pathological gambling, highlighting the current clinical approaches most likely to lead to early identification, symptom remission, and improvement maintenance.Useful appendixes provide specific tests, scales, and diagnostic criteria following four major sections of the book:• Public Health and Epidemiologydiscusses prevalence and definitions of recreational, problem, and pathological gambling; the relationship between the different levels of gambling severity; and gambling's effects on societal, familial, and individual health and well-being.• Clinical Characteristicscovers the symptoms and sequelae of pathological gambling and the differences among adolescents, older adults, and men and women, and shows that pathological gambling—rather than being categorized as a single disorder—shares important features with many disorders, among them obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, affective spectrum disorders, addiction, and impulse-control disorder.• Etiologydetails the realms of both psychology (behavioral, cognitive, and dispositional theories) and neurobiology (noradrenergic, serotonergic, dopaminergic, and opioidergic systems as well as familial and inherited factors) to explain the behavior of pathological gambling—knowledge that may prove useful in understanding a range of addictive and impulsive disorders.• Prevention and Treatmentemphasizes the vital role of the clinician in prevention efforts, including a prevention strategy tailored specifically for adolescents and young adults; discusses a variety of behavioral and pharmacological interventions for patients including self-help and professional-based interventions for family members; and concludes with assessments useful in diagnosing pathological gambling and monitoring symptom change.Psychiatrists, psychiatric researchers, and other mental health care professionals will welcome this book as their most up-to-date source for invaluable knowledge about and research from the world's recogn

Problem Gambling in EuropeChallenges, Prevention, and InterventionsEdited by Gerhard Meyer, University of Bremen, GermanyTobias Hayer, University of Bremen, GermanyMark Griffiths, Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom  As a leisure activity, gambling dates back to ancient times. More recently, the surge in avenues for gambling—casinos, sports betting, lotteries, and remote media (e.g.,Internet, mobile phone, interactive television) among them—finds growing numbers of people losing control over their gambling behaviour, usually at great personal and financial expense. Problem Gambling in Europe is the first book to offer a robust international knowledge base compiled by an interdisciplinary panel of researchers in gambling behaviour. Reports from 21 countries throughout Western, Eastern, Northern, and Southern Europe reveal wide variations in types of wagering activities, participation by populations, social and criminal consequences related to pathological gambling, the extent to which governments acknowledge the problem, and efforts to control it (often with the involvement of the gaming industries). For each country, noted experts discuss:Current legislation regulating gambling.Forms of gambling and their addictive potential.Participation rates and demographics.Prevalence of pathological gambling.National policies to address problem gambling.Prevention strategies and treatment methods.Problem Gambling in Europe brings insight and clarity to a widespread and complex phenomenon, and will be of considerable interest to all parties working to reduce their negative effects: social science researchers in addictions, gambling behaviour, and public health; clinical, social, and health psychologists and psychiatrists; treatment practitioners; the gaming industry; regulators; and policy makers.

Legalized Gambling by Ruschmann, Paul; Marzilli, Alan Edition ILL, 0

$13.99

The United States has struggled with its gambling policy since colonial days, and its legal stance has alternated between legalization and prohibition. Today, many forms of gambling are legal, and most Americans bet at least occasionally. Many people believe, however, that the recent rush to legalize gambling has turned millions of Americans into pathological gamblers. They blame a variety of problems, including crime, broken families, and the exploitation of the poor, on legalization. Defenders contend that gambling’s negative consequences have been exaggerated and that most Americans bet responsibly. They also warn that prohibition will not stop gambling but instead turn the gambling business over to organized criminals. Legalized Gambling explains how the debate over gambling has become more intense in recent years because of the proliferation of online casinos and the popularity of illegal sports betting.
